Taking my daily walk this morning, I remembered how exciting our early days were when we moved here 5 years ago. Not only the constant warmth and sunshine was very well received, but the energy of development surrounding us. Now, there seems to be another element of renewed vigor as we start to emerge from the ills of
the past year or so. The Yacht Club has been finished now for a good two years or so, and Turtle Cove, one of the earlie
r "settlements" here in Turks and Caicos (the is where one of the earliest tourist hotels was located) looks more and more like a mature village with a well established casino, several restaurants, moorings for both yachts and super yachts, condominiums and stunning private houses. The Azul project is getting its red tiles roof installed, and the Sea Flowers project, languishing now for several months with little movement is being promoted more and there seemed to be a site meeting the other morning of several workers, preparing for the next push. As I walk along the pavement on the new Lower Bight Road, this was installed now some three years ago, the weeds and grass are starting to poke through the gaps in the cement, and hopefully public works will be along with weedkiller etc to stop the cracks getting large
r. I walk though the lovely new children's park which has beautiful landscaping and we well used play area... it took a little time to get finished, but is now established, brand spanking new and a true enhancement to the area.
Entering the beach slot of my walk, I drift past the Wymara and the West Bay club, both stunning condo-hotel developments, (check out this listing we have - this is a great unit) and my half way mark is good 'ol Coral Gardens where we have a small office. A new beach bar call "Somewhere" has been established and breakfast is very tempting. But not so.
Thank goodness for my ipod, as by now I need the upbeat tempo to keep me going, as I make my way back, back along the road, heading for home. I have been "tooted" several times this morning by chums who drive past, which is a nice reminder that we are a small community.
As Jan wrote some time ago, Lucky Me.
